The dead selections for the acoustic set were primo.
Lineage w berserk full#
Overall set 1 was short and to say that you will be performing three FULL sets and starting off with a six song set is a little whimpy. Set closer Deal is expected and satisfactory. First time ever Midnight Rider cover would have made Duane proud. Not even thinking back to the heydays of Grateful Dead, just in comparison with other Phil Big Rivers i have heard. Big River seemed unguided and uninspired. Bertha opener is always exciting and was executed well with Jackie on lead vocals. The shinning star this night was Steve Molitz on keys, who I will get to in my specific reviews of each set. Without going into too much detail about Jackie Green, I can say he was the least dead experienced played, but still shinned through as a solid newcommer. Were my incredibly high expectations fulfilled? For the most part. High expectations were admisdt for this show since 1) Phil loves CO and Red Rocks and 2) acoustic set announcement. Phil hasn't been to the Rocks in three years and this was my first time seeing him here. We, the audience get all the benefits, right? Thanks for indulging me. I think this incarnation is the best fit for both Phil and Jackie and apparently they are having alot of fun. Check out his albums and you'll understand the level of talent he has.

I bet Jerry would approve wholeheartedly. Sheesh! Most of all he's a really nice guy who is very respectfull of the music and knows how fortunate he is to play with Phil and Company. For those who don't play instruments, this stuff is very difficult to play and jam to, not just on one instrument, but try guitar, harmonica, and keyboards that he plays and then remember the lyrics. I'm absolutely amazed that he is able to play and contribute at this level and learn the catalog of songs SO QUICKLY. I'm glad to see that many of you have jumped on board w/ Jackie. I have loved the Dead before most of you were born (the old cantankerous geezer is coming out in me). I'm from the Sacramento area and have been a Greenehead since the 1st song I saw Jackie play many years ago, when he was really just a kid and painfully shy, believe it or not.
